Square Foot Gardening was developed by Mel Bartholomew in 1981. It is designed to remedy many of the complications connected to more traditional row gardening copied from farming. Mr. Connelly has been gardening using the Square Foot Method for over 20 years and volunteering with the Prairie Partners Master Gardeners for 4. He will be speaking on the basics of this system, the benefits of the Square Foot Method, and how to design a garden specific to your needs.

Home Grown Nutrition

Learn about basic gardening tips that will improve the quality and quantity of your own vegetable harvest.  As a registered dietitian Mary encourages people to eat several servings of fruits and vegetables every day.  Freshly harvested vegetables from your garden can provide high quality, nutritious food for your diet.  Mary completed her Master Gardener training in 2010 and currently resides in Hecla SD.

Growing Hardy Roses

Afraid of roses?  Don’t be.  Lori will introduce you to the ease of growing hardy roses in our climate.  She will show you how to choose, plant, and care for these beautiful underused plants.  Lori has been a Master Gardener since 2008, she is President and Charter Member of Hardy Rosarians of South Dakota and was instrumental in designing the rose display beds at the Kuhenert Arboretum.  Lori, her husband, and two sons live in Mobridge SD.
